Description
This recipe book is part of the papers of George Addison Baxter (1771-1841), a Presbyterian minister, science educator, and author, who served as president of what is today Washington and Lee University, from 1799 to 1829, and as president of Hampden-Sydney College, from 1835 to his death. Baxter and his wife Anne Fleming (b. 1771) had nine children, including Nancy Baxter, who was born in 1810 according to one online source. The library's collection of the Baxter papers contains letters written by the Baxter sisters to one another between 1836 and 1887, and Nancy presumably compiled her recipe book during roughly the same period.
