This recipe book was compiled by Sarah Eaton, who was likely of New England. In addition to handwritten recipes, the book includes some newspaper clippings pasted to the pages. The library catalog record shows an image of the book's cover, an image of the inside cover and the first page, and an image of two middle pages. The recipes on the two middle pages outline various cakes and cookies, including a ring-shaped butter cookie called Jackson Jumbles. Named after Andrew Jackson, a hero of the War of 1812 and President of the United States from 1829 to 1837, these cookies are a common sight in printed cookbooks of the 1840s and 1850s. Presumably this cookbook is roughly of the same date.
