Description
This recipe book is part of the library's collection of the papers of William R. Holloway, which includes papers generated by Oliver P. Morton and his family. The book is located in Box 10, folder 6 of the Holloway collection.

Oliver P. Morton (1823-1877) served as governor of Indiana from 1861 to 1865 and then as U. S. senator from Indiana from 1867 to 1877. A member of the new Republican Party, as governor, he was a strong supporter of the Union cause during the Civil War and, as senator, he voted to convict impeached President Andrew Johnson. He married Lucinda Maria Burbank (1825-1907) in 1845. The couple had five children, three of whom lived to adulthood. Oliver P. Morton and his family lived in a Greek Revival home in Centerville, Indiana. Presumably, Mrs. Morton compiled at least some of her recipe book there. Built in 1848, the house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.
