This manuscript of approximately 100 pages is in the single hand of Miss Barton, who lived in a town of Suffolk, England. All versos and some rectos are divided into two columns and filled with very brief diary entries recording household work, pastimes, meals, illnesses, visitors, weather, local events, and trips to neighboring towns and farms. The volume also contains household accounts, including bills for dressmaking and losses in card games; medical recipes, including cures for chilblains, fluxes, toothaches, and burns; culinary recipes, including almond custard, rice pudding, and trussed partridges; and miscellaneous news reports and historical items, such as a description of a miraculous well in Norfolk and comments on the jewels used during the coronation of George III.
