Description
This book mostly consists of a diary kept by Susan Sherman (1830-1902), of Brookfield, Connecticut, between "June Sunday 9th 1850" (the first entry) and Sunday, December 21, 1851 (the last).. Her father was a medical doctor, and her brother Samuel graduated from Trinity College in 1850. A single woman living with her parents, Susan Sherman describes trips, daily domestic and social activities, and church. Beginning 7 June 1851, she is courted by Joseph A. Banks of Bridgeport; by September they are engaged; and the diary ends with a description of her wedding preparations. At the end of the bound volume is a section containing recipes, mostly desserts.
