Description
This volume is inscribed Sarah Tomlinson and dated August 1875. Some of the recipes bear dates from 1841 to 1871. The book appears to be in a single hand. The recipes are primarily culinary. Among the foods outlined are cakes, cheesecakes, biscuits, puddings, pickles, preserves, jellies, meat pies, ham, preserved meats, fish, Siberian crabs, and vinegar. There are also a number of recipes for fruit and flower wines, including cowslip, orange, green gooseberry, white elder, damson, ginger, and raisin. Recipes are attributed to various individuals, including "my sister Sarah," who may be the Sarah Tomlinson of the book's ownership inscription.
